claim on your roofing insurance

Insurance is a tricky thing, no matter what variety you have! Medical, home and auto insurance all require the same basic things, such as deductibles, paperwork and knowledge before you go into making a claim. Here at 21 Roofing Group, we don’t want our clients to be left high and dry should they want to make a claim after a storm or other damage that has occurred to their roof. If you are considering making a claim on your roofing insurance, here are a few things you need to know.

First, you need to have a good working knowledge of your policy. This isn’t always easy, especially in complex or commercial roofing cases, but it is essential before you make a claim. In some cases, the damages to the roof might actually be better if you paid them out of pocket rather than filing a claim! Read through your policy carefully and in good weather before something happens to your roof.

Second, make notes of what your policy will and won’t cover. A small shorthand paper kept with your policy can be invaluable for when you have a question that needs a fast answer. Policy exclusions often include damage that is done by the homeowner, if your roof needs replacement due to age, and also certain materials.

Finally, be sure to call your agent if you are considering making a claim. Many insurance companies are real sticklers for details and will negate the entire claim (and the payment of the bills!) if certain procedures are not followed.
